HOOP: How does it feel to be back in San Antonio?

Sophia: It’s my home now. To b back here is always nice.

HOOP: Is there something u hv to eat, buy or do as soon as you hit U.S. soil?

Sophia: I usually go to Sonic and IHOP.

HOOP: What do u like?

Sophia: I like the Sonic burger with cheese, no mustard, no pickles, no onions and mayo instead of mustard. It’s ketchup, lettuce, tomatoes, mayo, cheese.

HOOP: I’ve never been to IHOP. I’m so jealous. What do u like?

Sophia: Pretty much I’ve tried everything on the menu. I usually get a short stack, eggs w/ cheese and tomatoes and sausage, ham or bacon.

HOOP: You can eat this and still be thin?

Sophia: I have to go to practice and run it all off.

HOOP: Someday u won’t be playing.

Sophia: My plan is to do triathlon after I finish playing, so I can stay in shape.

HOOP: It seems so many players are into Twitter. Do you tweet?

Sophia: I used to, but then I went overseas.

HOOP: No tweeting from overseas?

Sophia: I got really busy. I just didn’t keep up with it.

HOOP: Maybe you’ll pick it up again this summer.

Sophia: I have to find the time to do that. Time and me haven’t worked well lately.

HOOP: You’ve played in Turkey now for three WNBA off-seasons. Is there something you miss when you leave Turkey?

Sophia: There isn’t anything, because it’s more than likely I’ll be going back there.

HOOP: What TV shows are you catching up on now that you’re home?

Sophia: I used to be such a TV person and follow everything, but I feel as I’m getting older, I don’t have time to do everything and TV has been cut.

HOOP: No show u just have to see?

Sophia: My teammates are trying to get me to watch Criminal Minds. I’ve seen it one time.

HOOP: I thought you liked the CSI shows?

Sophia: I did. I do. I just haven’t watched. I loved Scrubs, CSI Miami, Bones. I like the reality shows on VH1.

HOOP: Last song you downloaded on your iPod?

Sophia: The last album that I bought was Tye Tribbett, a gospel singer. He has a song called “Stand Out.”

HOOP: Best place to shop in San Antonio?

Sophia: Ross. It’s a department store.

HOOP: Best place to shop on the road?

Sophia: H & M.

HOOP: Any summer movies you’re eager to see?

Sophia: Twilight Eclipse.

HOOP: Team Jacob or Team Edward?

Sophia: I’m going for Jacob.

HOOP: Who do you think plays basketball better?

Sophia: I don’t know.

HOOP: Probably Jacob because he’s American.

Sophia: I’ll agree.

Only through Self improvement and Self Knowledge can one truly be happy. The Bible said ‘why look at the speck in your brother’s eye when you have a log in your own eye; first take care of the log then you will be able to see clearly to help your brother’ Matthew 7:4-5. Until we first take a deep look within ourselves and come to the conclusion that there is a lot of garbage that needs to be clean out from within us; we cannot and will not be happy.
We live in a world where taking care of the outside is what matters, but that only leads to self destruction.
Its like when you go watch your car, if you wash the outside only, eventually all sort of dunk will be on the inside and no one will want to ride with us. Same with our selves, we have to take the time to analyze ourselves, be our own judge, find things that you know you need to improve on and work on them. Be a better you.

A mother’s love is a force to be reckoned with. What is the feeling of a mother that can hear the screams of her child and cannot do anything about it. There are numerous stories of this going on right now with the people of Haiti. Panic, anxiety, fear grips there heart everyday as they wait to hear news as to if their love ones made it through this earthquake. We cannot lose hope, but with one day and one simple act at a time we can help build back a country.
It is the greatest of all mistakes to do nothing because you can only do little – do what you can. ~Sydney Smith

Find Out How to Take Care of your Body, Eating Healthy and Staying Fit:

We live in a world where grabbing fast food and playing video games has become our regimen. Eating junk food and lack of exercise is definitely not going to get your body where you want it to be
Here are some simple ways to get you healthy and being fit
1. It may be cold outside but you can still put on a coat and go outside for 20 minutes. Jump rope is a great way to get aerobic exercise. By the time you are done, you will be hot and sweaty so you won’t feel the cold.

2. Play hop scotch. If its snowing outside, make a game in the house.

3. Watch a fast beat – up tempo music video and try to do the dance

4. if its snowing, go outside and play in the snow. Have a snow ball fight and try to catch a snow ball. Makes 8 to 10 snow angels.

There are many ways for you to stay healthy and maintain a healthy lifestyle. You just have to find the time to invest in YOU. No one can do that for you.

My heart and prayers goes out to the people of Haiti at this time. There is no explanation as to why this earthquake happened but this is a time where we as a people can come together and show our suppose for humanity. There are numerous ways for people all over the world to help this poor country in its time of need. I pray that we can be united as one and pray to God that He will take this country in His hands and form it back into what he wants it to be.
Please view yourself and your family in this situation and ask what and how much will you want people to help you and your family. Please help in whatever way you can.
Thanks

The Silver Stars phenom draws comfort from belief.

by Ben York

Every player in the WNBA has their own unique way of preparing for competition. In some ways, it’s reflective of their off the court personality and values.

Some prefer listening to their favorite music or artist to get them hyped and pumped up. Others have specific, pre-game rituals that contain a precise amount of stages or steps. There are even some players who have to take a certain amount of shots from the same specified areas on thSophia Younge floor each night. No technique is better or worse than another – it’s just a matter of what works on an individual basis.

For Sophia Young of the San Antonio Silver Stars her method is simple and powerful at the same time – her steady faith in God.

Though, Young’s reliance on faith deals with much more than motivation; it’s the sole basis of her character. Not only is it vital for her as a person, she uses her unwavering faith to continually improve as a basketball player.

While the topic of religion and faith has gone through an enormous amount of scrutiny in the past couple of decades, there is a noticeable calmness and assuredness in Sophia’s belief that is almost serene. There’s no falseness or showmanship here – Young’s steadfast devotion to her faith is completely genuine. Perhaps more importantly, it’s her own faith; there isn’t an effort to critique others who might not share the exact same views or beliefs. Not only is it pleasant and inspiring, it brings a certain amount comfort to Young – allowing her to devote her time to a greater purpose.

“He is the center and the reason for my life,” said Young. “I always try to imagine my life without Jesus and it scares me to the core. I am nothing without my relationship with God. He is my life, my strength, my comforter, my hope and my very best friend.”

Coming to the United States as a foreign exchange student at the age of 15, Young quickly blossomed into a distinctive player in high school which led to a highly successful college career at Baylor University. After leading Baylor to a National Championship in 2005, Young was selected as the No. 4 pick in the 2006 WNBA draft by the Silver Stars.

Sophia wasted no time making a resounding impact for the organization earning a birth in the All-Star game as a rookie in 2006 and leading the Silver Stars to the WNBA Finals in 2007. Young has never shot less than 42 percent froSophia Youngm the floor in a season and her efficiency rating of +17.00 is one of the best in the league today.

With the amount of success she’s earned at a young age, Sophia has always maintained a stoic presence about her. There is an instinctive type of intensity that exudes from Sophia on a consistent basis. She’s someone who has no problem sacrificing for the betterment of the team, gladly doing whatever the Silver Stars ask her to in order to put them in the best position to win. For Young, that mindset of working hard and devoting herself to the game is a conscious decision and one she takes very seriously.

“I pride myself on doing the job that I am getting paid for,” Young said. “I’ve always had a hard work type of mindset and this is something that I don’t ever want to lose.”

The drive to get better fuels Sophia on a daily basis. Currently in Turkey playing for Galatasaray, Young uses the off-season from the WNBA to work on things she feels need to be improved in her game.

“The season [in Turkey] has been interesting,” Young said. “We have had some ups and downs and we most definitely have room for improvement which we need. But like any player, I want to win a WNBA Championship – and I think that I have a lot more to learn as a basketball player. So any way that I can improve, I’m willing to work at it whether it is shooting, ball handling, passing, etc.”

No matter what happens in life for Sophia, the basis of her being will always stem from her faith. Young realizes and appreciates how blessed she is to be a WNBA player, and wantsSophia Young to encourage young women to shoot for their dreams just like she did. Clearly, Sophia understands her significant position as a role model for young women across the globe and vows to uphold her lofty virtues of living life with integrity and honor at all times. She has sponsored a child in Rwanda since her sophomore year at Baylor and had made it well known that she has a desire to open a shelter for abused girls someday.

“I believe that everyone has a passion – something that stirs their spirit to life,” Sophia said. “My passion is for kids, specifically girls, who have been abused in any form. I’ve read stories and talked to numerous girls about the things that they have gone though in their lives and it is beyond comprehension why bad things happen to innocent children. But that’s life and I want to do anything that I can to help these girls get out of these horrible situations. That’s where the shelter comes in. I have been blessed beyond what I could ever dream of. Giving someone the opportunity and helping someone achieve their goals will be enough satisfaction for me.”

This quiet, uncompromising confidence in Sophia has continually brought the Silver Stars composure during difficult situations and tense moments in games (as evidenced by her miraculous shot against the Sparks in 2008). Not coincidentally, that same self-confidence and poise is directly correlated with her enduring faith.

Our team did this secret santa over the Christmas break. But it wasn’t really a secret because at the end of the celebration -as our coach called it- we all knew who had whom. The worst thing about that is you have to look happy when the person give you your gift, you cannot have a “what is this” type of look. For instance, my general manager had my name and she got me something from Louis Vattton and as I saw the box, I automatically got excited. I open the box slowly and in it was this thing. Im not sure if it was a tie, a scarf or a belt. In my head I was like “what is this?” But I kept a smile on my face like “oh wow, this is great” LOL. She prove that saying right. Now everything that is expensive is wearable and cute.
Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate her gift and Im gonna fine a way to rock it this summer, so look out for an hot outfit with it, hopefully along with a Louis Votton bag. hint hint.
Im not gonna say what I got my person, just know it was perfect for her and somewhat explicit.
