Dog Walking

dwOnce I finally arrived in Turkey with my two chihuahua I settled comfortably in my apartment. Im located in a quaint area that has great space for walking, which i will need with 2 dogs. I decided since i got here that the latest addition to my family needs to drop a few pounds, so here I am on a mission for kobe to get in shape. I’ve always heard that life is not fair, and that is especially the case for my thin Kade who doesn’t need to lose weight at all, if anything, he could stand to gain a few. But I can’t show favoritism, so he has to go through the same diet and daily workout as Kobe. I started by not allowing them to have any table food, which if you know me is a huge step. I feed them their dog food twice a daily.

Now, the workout routine; since all Kobe wants to do is sleep, any kind physical activity would be a bonus for him. I thought we would start our workout by simply walking 30 minutes a day; after 10 minutes Kobe was already ready for a water break. (smile) We completed day 1 and our exercise routine was officially on the way.

Monday was a very busy day, I had practice at 9 a.m and a game that evening. We won our game and on the bus ride home, i knew what I had to do when I got there- walk the dogs. It had already gotten dark outside but I just cant have a fat dog, it just doesn’t look good for an athlete. (smile) So we set out on my walk- I have kade in one lease and my precious chunky Kobe on another, held one in each hand. Both of their collars were a bit loose and I knew they both needed to be tightened, I thought, I would do it when I got home but really didn’t get it much more thought. I was walking along thinking about the game and a millions of things when I realized “I had no resistance from one of my leases”.  I knew it wasn’t Kobe, because of his weight he had plenty of resistance (smile). I turn around and poor Kade was in the middle of the street curled up in a ball and i was still walking with his leash AND collar in my hand. What’s wrong with this picture?? I screamed and the pitch of my voice scared him even worst (you know how high my voice is). I turned and ran towards him wanting him to stay still until i got to him. (mind you he’s not the one that needs exercise). I got his collar back on and it all worked out but could have been a horrible disaster. We went directly home and tightened both collars. Kobe’s collar actually needed tightening more than Kade’s, who knows; maybe he’s already lost a few pounds. (smile).
