I emailed my pastor back in waco texas to ask if he new of any churches over here in turkey, he informed me of the Union Church of Istanbul. Sunday morning, Jennifer and I set out to visit this church, we had to take a cab because we didn’t know where the church was. It cost us 28tl to get there which was cool. The church was wonderful, its hard being away from home for so long without a church so I am glad we found this church.
On our way back, we got into cab and the driver was trying to explain something to us about a football game and there being traffic. I was like “dude just take us home” There was no traffic anywhere and we got home in 20 minutes or less. Then this man come telling me its 65tl, that meant that the cab fair doubled.
Me… excuse me”
cab driver… 65tl, I take highway, there was traffic
Me… NO SIR. that’s not right, we came back the same way we went and there was no traffic.
Cab driver.. madam, 65tl
Me…I’m calling my manager.
Cab driver… okay okay 50tl
Me… NO, its suppose to be 30tl
After 10 minutes of frustrating arguing, I gave him 50tl bill. TELL ME WHY THIS MAN PULLED A 5tl BILL OUT HIS POCKET AND TOLD ME I GAVE HIM A 5.
APPALLED by him, I looked at him in amazement. I could not believe the audacity of this man to try and trick me. I did not have any 5 with me, so I know he was tripping. He was trying to get me to give him another 50 so in all he would of got 100 from me; that was not going to happen. HE GOT SOME NERVE.
He must not know me.
You can’t BS a BSer so before he try to BS me, he needs to go BS another cab driver. courtesy “role models”

Unfortunately, we (Turkish people i mean) even encounter some problems with some cab drivers. Some of them can use long ways to reach same point to get more money. They usually try to make this trick when they understand the person got in taxi doesn’t know the road of Istanbul, or is a tourist. He should have thought that you are tourist and you don’t know Istanbul. For avoiding this problems, you can ask to driver how much you will pay for going to where you want before getting in taxi.
Also, be careful about this 5-50 TL problem. Their color is similar and some cab drivers or seller etc. could try tricks like you mentioned. They try to trick Turkish people, too. Of course not all sellers.
I hope such experiences doesn’t effect your future in Turkey. All Galatasaray fans follow women basketball love you very much.
